Job Description

Position: Driver
Supervisor: Assistant General Services Manager
Location: Yaoundé, Cameroon
Opening Date: 11 March 2019

Peace Corps Cameroon has a position opening for a Driver. The incumbent will work in a fast-paced office and must have a demonstrated record as an organized self-starter able to complete numerous tasks simultaneously and with minimum guidance but equally good working as a team member and providing quality customer service.

Basic Function of Position:
Under the supervision of the Assistant General Services Manager (AGSM), the DRIVER is responsible for driving and tracking all vehicle related paper work and maintenance. He/she shall take full responsibility over the vehicles within his/her possession.

Specific Duties:
1. Provides scheduled and unscheduled driving for each work day as directed by the AGSM.
2. Performs daily checks on the vehicles. These includes oils, lights, tire Inflation as per recommended pressure, water coolant level, tools, battery, medical kit, car papers and expiration dates, gas level, jack and wrench.
3. Keeps the vehicle clean daily, complete the vehicle trip log, fuel logs tracks and report all repairs on the trip log sheet and inform the AGSM/GSM, do a point-to-point travel log sheet.
4. Drops off and picks up mails/packages and other items as instructed.
5. Performs minor maintenance on vehicles and direct major maintenance to the AGSM.
6. Assists the property manager, mail room clerk and all the senior staff in performing other official tasks as needed.
7. Takes a duty turn of two weeks, which will rotate between drivers, and serve as the Duty driver for the two weeks. When not in that capacity, should give full support to the Duty Driver on call.
8. Report all incidents and other repairs to the ASGM for prompt repairs.
9. Must be knowledgeable and supportive of PC/Cameroon safety and security policies and procedures, to include the timely reporting of suspicious Incidents, persons or articles.
10. Drivers are not allowed to alter their assigned itinerary (especially during field trips) at the request of the passenger(s) as this could adversely affect subsequent transportation assignments of the driver for that day. The driver is required to contact the AGSM, GSM, and DMO for authorization to deviate from assigned itinerary in order to accommodate task while in the field.
11. Must respect, at all time, host country (Cameroon) driving rules and regulations across the national territory.
12. Must have a Travel Order (aka Ordre de Mission), for any trip outside Yaounde, Regional Office. Ensure to use a waiver form when necessary, following prior authorization from the DMO or the Country Director.
13. Must meet minimum vision (with glasses as needed) and blood pressure requirements to ensure safety of himself or herself, passengers, and USG property
14. Performs other duties as assigned by the Country Director, DPT, DMO, PCMO and the GSM.

Safety and Security
SSI 110 Standard Security Requirements-Driver: Operates Peace Corps vehicles safely at all times. Immediately communicates Volunteer safety and security concerns and issues to the Safety and Security Manager (SSM) and CD. Knowledgeable and supportive of Peace Corps safety and security policies and procedures, including the timely reporting of suspicious incidents, persons or articles.

Texting While Driving
• To the extent Contractor is allowed to operate a US government owned, leased, or rented vehicle (GOV) to perform their job duties, the Contractor must operate that vehicle safely at all times and only operate it for official business purposes as defined in 31 USC 1334.
• Contractor is encouraged to refrain from texting or from engaging in any behavior that distracts attention from driving safely at any time. Except in an emergency situation, Contractor shall not text message (i) when driving a GOV; (ii) when driving a privately-owned vehicle (POV) while on official government business; or (iii) while using electronic equipment supplied by the government while driving any vehicle (even during off-duty hours).

Travel outside of Country
The Contractor is subject to worldwide availability and may be requested by the Peace Corps to be reassigned or transferred permanently to another Peace Corps Post/Headquarters or perform temporary duties (TDY) as required and to travel to other assignments within Peace Corps’ as assigned. Any such reassignment or transfer shall be subject to agreement of the Contractor. The Statement of Work as defined will remain the same; however the duties may be subject to change as determined by the Contracting Officer.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Completion of secondary school.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 2 years experience as a driver/chauffeur; valid driver license, and excellent driving record. • Good working knowledge in an international organization or similar systems will be an advantage • Good knowledge of local traffic laws and national routes.
• The incumbent would is expected to be knowledgeable in vehicle maintenance, safe driving procedures and a vast knowledge of Cameroonian road network.

Language Proficiency: Written and oral fluency in English or French and working knowledge, at the minimum, of the other.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
• Organizational skills, attention to detail and presentation
• Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks
• Computer literacy especially in MS word, Excel and Outlook.
• Demonstrated experience of cross cultural communication skills is highly desired.
• Ability to work as a team, independently and proactively.
• Ability to work a regular Monday through Friday schedule with impromptu, after-hours, weekend assignments and travels to countryside when necessary.
