The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to
support peace and development worldwide. Volunteerism can transform the pace and nature of
development and it benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer. UNV contributes to peace
and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism
into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers. In most cultures volunteerism is deeply
embedded in long-established, ancient traditions of sharing and support within the communities. In this
context, UN Volunteers take part in various forms of volunteerism and play a role in development and
peace together with co-workers, host agencies and local communities. In all assignments, UN Volunteers
promote volunteerism through their action and conduct. Engaging in volunteer activity can effectively and
positively enrich their understanding of local and social realities, as well as create a bridge between
themselves and the people in their host community. This will make the time they spend as UN Volunteers
even more rewarding and productive.

Organizational Context & Project Description
WFP Cameroon is looking for a Programme Assistant (Nutrition) to be based in Ngaoundere to assist in
the implementation phase of the WFP Cameroon Country Strategic Plan (CSP) 2018-2020.
To help Cameroon achieve zero hunger, WFP will work with the Government to establish long-term
interventions to improve the resilience of vulnerable communities in Far North, North, Adamaoua and East
regions. Community resilience-building will involve mutually reinforcing livelihood interventions to stabilize
community productivity and nutrition, reduce post-harvest losses, improve gender and social inclusion and
promote market opportunities for smallholders. These interventions will be reinforced by an emergency
response capacity using social safety nets to support displaced people and refugees and protect host
communities’ long-term investments in resilience. After a crisis, WFP will return to supporting long-term
resilience. Following an emergency in a stable locality, it will transition to early recovery. WFP will extend
its partnership with the Government to establish data monitoring and accountability systems for
emergency preparedness and response, and will partner United Nations agencies, especially the Romebased agencies, and other non-State actors. WFP’s country strategic plan for Cameroon (2018–2020) is
based on lessons learned, discussions with the Government, donors and partners, the zero hunger
